About
Carolyn Irvin is an abstract multi-media artist from the south, with a Bachelor of Arts & Sciences from the University of South Alabama. She currently resides in New York City. Using a variety of techniques and materials to achieve impasto, her primary goal is playing with texture and giving the plane a three dimensional effect in her paintings.
She takes time with each work, sometimes applying layer after layer over time until the desired aesthetic is reached. Her collage art pieces containing weapon imagery is both empowering while also touching on the sensitive subject of gun control.
"I gather my inspiration from everything and anything visceral, or beautifully made, that affects me in some way. I love playing with different textiles, ideas, and styles. With my photography, I am always looking for inspiration, and am very aware of everything around me. My collage art is where I like to touch on things both provocative and taboo."
